Charlie Peavyhouse Is Irreplaceable
Wednesday, February 22, 2012
I was saddened to read where Charlie Peavyhouse passed away several days ago, and then my sadness turned to joy.
The joy stems from knowing Charlie for more than a decade and knowing the reach he had in this community. Whether it was as an educator, a political activist, a wildlife lover or one of the best gardeners around, he was very instrumental in a vast number of candidates being elected to office after seeking his advice for public office. Charlie could pull together a breakfast with standing room only success, he could tell you what you had to do in order to help get your name out there in front of the voters and he was very good at this.
Watching him humbly accept his Honorary Doctorate from Tennessee Wesleyan College several years ago and then attending the luncheon for him, listening to his many friends who made the trip there to honor this man was astounding. What a fulfilled life Charlie led.
The citizens of this community who were indeed fortunate to have been educated by him and his involvement in the local education system know exactly what I'm talking about when I say he truly cared about other people and did it in a way without pounding his chest for recognition.
Charlie would give some of the fruits of his gardening labor to people. He always wanted to share what he had with others, and for this, this community and state are indeed grateful.
Mr. Peavyhouse will be sorely missed, by the children he educated, by the soldiers he served with, by the elected officials he helped and the wildlife he loved. Charlie will be irreplaceable. Period.
