Walter Louis “Smitty” Smith, 67, died on February 18, 2012 at a local hospital.  

He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed with Wheland Foundry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie Smith; brothers, Jamie, Authur Lee, William Jr. and Luther Smith; sisters, Minnie Ruth Johnson, Mattie Woods and Mary Russell.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Smith; sons, Cedric (Suanja) Smith and Adrian Smith; daughters, Cassandra Smith , Leslie Smith, Christiana Smith and Alanna Smith;  grandchildren, Keosha, Breosha, Avianna, Ryhanna, Imani, Caleb and Shaquela; sister, Josephine Davidson;  brothers, Durand Smith, Melvin Smith and Joseph (Katie) Smith.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, February 24, in the chapel with Pastor Kevin Adams officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Thursday, February 23, with the family receiving friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.

Mark “Mike” Manley Crandall, 75, of Soddy Daisy, died on May 21, 2012. Mike moved to Chattanooga in 1967. He worked for various fastener companies until he opened his own company in 1976, Bolts & Nuts, Inc. Mike retired in March of 2006. Teen Killed When Thrown From Hood Of Car At Old Kmart On Signal Mountain Road

A 17-year-old was killed Sunday night when he was thrown from the hood of a vehicle at the old Kmart on Signal Mountain Road.
