Georgia's Attorney General said Monday he would consider a deal that would bring water to Atlanta from the Tennessee River and convert the Chattanooga Metropolitian Airport into Atlanta's second airport, the Gainesville Times reported.
The newspaper said Attorney General Sam Olens, in a speech to the Gainesville Rotary Club, said he did not believe locations such as Cobb, North Fulton or Gwinnett would be suitable for a second Atlanta airport.
He said Georgia officials "should be open" to discussion that includes a water pipe from the Tennessee River to water-starved Atlanta.
The newspaper said some members of the club applauded the suggestion.
Attorney General Olens said he stays in touch with Tennessee's attorney general Robert Cooper, who is originally from Chattanooga, and he said they might be part of a "win-win agreement" between the two states.
The speaker said it's possible to reach Chattanooga in about 75 minutes on I-75 from his home in Cobb County. He said it can take longer than that to get to the Atlanta Airport due to traffic congestion.
