Ables, Statom Apply To Be Moon Replacement; Norton Seen As Strong Frontrunner

Chief Magistrate Larry Ables and prosecutor Lila Statom on Monday applied for consideration for the inteirm appointment to replace the late General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon.

And two other attorneys - Rob Philyaw and Ron Powers - have picked up papers to run for the vacancy in the August election.

Candidates have until Friday at noon to submit applications, and the commission plans to make the choice in early March after private interviews.

Sources said David Norton is the favorite of a number of County Commission members.

He is the judge for the city of Soddy Daisy and assistant county attorney..
