The Cleveland City Schools' Star Center Supervisor Michael Kahrs was on the agenda Monday to spotlight the system's new SchoolNet program. The immediate, short-term goal for Schoolnet is to have teachers create classroom-level formative assessments to aid in instruction and learning, with a desired result of improving individual students' performance on state assessments. Long-term, there are much loftier goals including system benchmarking, curriculum and planning tools, data analysis, and student/parent access, which Mr. Kahrs said to look for those features beginning next school year.
The program was piloted at E.L. Ross, but delivered to the entire system today. Mr. Kahrs said anyone with access will be able to see the demographics and enrollment every day. He said teachers will be able to track their students' progress daily instead of waiting for TCAP results.
Director of Schools, Dr. Martin Ringstaff said it will will be a great way for the board to follow enrollment trends. "It will be a great asset," he said.
Energy Education Specialist Paul Ramsey said the system has hired Education Logistics (EduLog) to consult with the transportation department. The company will collect data, resequence and consolidate bus routes and stops and will offer the most optimal school start and stop times accordingly. He said the routes and stops will be documented for the company by GPS, so they will have an accurate picture of every route. Once the data is collected Ramsey said it will only take a couple of weeks for the company to offer their recommendations for changes and improvements.
The site committee will meet Feb. 29 at 9 a.m. and the entire board will meet after to approve the budget. The board will meet again March 5.
