2 Inmates Captured After Escaping From Walker State Prison

Fred Brooks and Buell Emberson were recaptured on Tuesday without incident three miles from Walker State Prison, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. They were found by GDC personnel with assistance from local authorities.

A search was underway for the two inmates who escaped from Walker State Prison in Rock Springs, Ga. on Monday, at approximately 9:15 p.m. Buell David Emberson and Fred Dalton Brooks are believed to have fashioned a device that allowed them to breach the fence at the medium security facility.

Emberson, 42, is a white male, 5'11" and 175 pounds. He was convicted of several charges, including aggravated assault, making terrorist threats and eluding police. Brooks, 63, is a white male, 5'9" and 170 pounds. He was convicted and serving a life sentence for several charges including kidnapping, forgery, armed robbery and burglary.

The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state of Georgia with approximately 12,000 employees.
