Loren Bennett, a senior setter from Ooltewah High School, has signed a scholarship with Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

The five-foot-seven Bennett also excelled in track for the Lady Owls. Bennett has been a four-year varsity player and three-year starter.

Trevecca head volleyball coach Jayme Crowley loves much about her new recruit, especially her work ethic. Crowley said, "Loren is an outstanding two-sport athlete who will utilize her speed, 29" vertical jump, and her all around athleticism to benefit our program.

Loren has a great personality and fit in extremely well with our players on her visit to our campus. She is an intelligent and gifted student-athlete who has displayed throughout her career the perseverance to excel. We are very fortunate to have someone of her caliber join our program in 2012. We look forward to her leadership and her strong work ethic.’’

As a senior she was named to the Chattanooga Times "Best of the Preps" team and the 2011 All-Region team. She is a three-time All-District player and as a freshman she was selected the Most Improved Player

Bennett had 616 assists this season as a senior with the Lady Owls and also had 252 kills, 225 digs and 49 aces. She also played for the Choo Choo City club team for four years.

Bennett said she liked the Nashville campus and the Christian atmosphere. She also said she liked Trevecca Nazarene because of its physical therapy curriculum.

Bennett was coached from middle school through high school by Elaine Peigen of Ooltewah High School.

“Loren was a great asset to our program,’’ Peigen said. “She excels academically, has confidence and is a great leader. It has been a great joy to coach her in middle school and high school. Her parents have also been great with their help with our program.’’

Off the court, Bennett participated in a Costa Rica Mission Trip in 2008 to assist with volleyball clinics.

Debates Don't Decide Leadership Ability

I've watched how some in the media have attacked Scottie Mayfield for not debating. I've never been to a debate, and I am not going to vote for someone because they are able to remember and recite from memory, the well crafted answers they came up with the night before.   Often times, candidates focus on attacking each other instead of influencing undecided voters on any ...
