Cleveland State Presents History Lecture

  • Thursday, February 9, 2012

The Cleveland State Community College History Department is sponsoring a lecture on the capture of Forts Henry and Donelson by the U.S. Army and the Western Gunboat Flotilla in February of 1862. The lecture will be in Room 127 of the Mary T. Barker Humanities Building at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16.

This lecture, given by Professor Neil Greenwood, is part of an ongoing series of lectures marking the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. The Confederates built these forts on the Cumberland and the Tennessee Rivers to defend Confederate-held Tennessee. The capture of Forts Henry and Donelson paved the way for the struggle over Tennessee between the U.S. and Confederate Armies, subsequent U.S. military operations in the Lower South, and, ultimately, victory over the Confederates. This lecture series will continue at CSCC through 2015.

For more information on this lecture or the lecture series, contact Professor Greenwood at 423 472-7141, ext. 300.
