Clara Taylor Hughes, 76, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at her residence.  

She was a 1954 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.  She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church where she served faithfully for over 55 years as a youth adviser, choir member and deaconess.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Flister Taylor; husband, Austin Hughes; brothers, John and James Taylor; sisters, Helen Taylor and Florence Turnbow and stepdaughter, Sandra Campbell.  

Clara’s memories will live on in the hearts of the lives she touched and those who knew her. She made an impact in the lives of many and will be remembered by all. She loved people and tried to do everything she could to help others.  

Clara is survived by her son, Brian Hughes; daughter, Bridget Hughes; grandchildren, Talecea Hughes, Martin White, Khary and Kharmia Campbell; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Alpha Collier, Bernice (Robert) Taylor, Elnora (Roy) Miller, Jo-Ann (James) Harris and Sandra (Edward) Parker; brother, Harold (Brenda) Taylor; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Tawana) Hughes and James Hughes; sisters-in-law, Mary Braswell, Margret Montgomery and Louvenia Gordon; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.  

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 12, from 2-4 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will be on Monday, February 13, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Willie Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
