A Moderate View Of The Left And Right

Thursday, February 09, 2012
Recently, I wrote an opinion about the need for compassion and the fear of us losing sight of it. I followed that opinion with one that cautioned us to be careful about how we use the word entitlement.

Both of these entreaties were written to remind us (especially Congress),… never capitulate to unjust demands. When slicing fat from the budget, don't use a partisan's axe. This (to me) is a genuine cause for concern.

Wishing to clearly state that concern, I didn't address the egregious act of benefit theft. I merely mentioned that more needs to be done to stop the freeloading.

Nothing is begrudged more, than having to pay a freeloading, beggar's dole. The stigma that once decried them vile, no longer causes them shame.

What was considered (by most) to be lazy, trifling and no-good has wormed its way into tolerance. For those who connive, it's a means to gain, instead of having to work for it.

Procuring their' dole by deception, freeloaders ply their trade.

Leeching off others, doesn't require them to work.

Allowing this to go on, hurts those in legitimate need of assistance.

We need to stop winking and looking the other way, pretending it doesn't matter. It does matter, they're stealing from all of us. It deprives those that deserve help, and diminishes the benefits of honest work.
