Jack Staples of Chattanooga presents a check for $175 to Noah Long of Signal Mountain.
American Legion Battlefield Post 214 donated $175 to the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council’s (CAVC) newly-established National Cemetery Tree Replacement Program.
The check was presented to CAVC Past-Chair Noah Long by Post 214 member Jack Staples, a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, at the CAVC’s quarterly meeting on Feb. 17.
The Tree Replacement Program was developed in response to the massive loss of large, stately trees experienced at the Chattanooga National Cemetery during the past few years.
The tax-deductible $175 donation will purchase a 10 to12-foot tree which will be planted at Chattanooga National Cemetery in accordance with its Landscaping Master Plan.
Originally established in 1983 as a means to coordinate the activities of various area veterans groups, today’s Chattanooga Area Veteran’s Council is comprised of some 50-member and associate organizations providing streamlined support efforts, celebratory event coordination and a centralized resource repository for all military veterans and their families in the tri-state area of Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.
