The East Ridge Police Department and East Ridge Fire/Rescue responded around 10 a.m. on Thursday to southbound I-75 on a vehicle crash. Officers arrived on the scene to find a tractor-trailer had struck the Ringgold Road bridge over I-75 causing the trailer to break apart. The truck was carrying produce to Statesboro, Ga. Produce was covering two lanes of I-75.
East Ridge traffic investigators determined that a Toyota Camry also traveling south in I-75 lost control and began to spin.
The car spun into the lane of the tractor-trailer and hit it head-on. After the initial crash, the truck struck the bridge.
Tennessee Department of Transportation responded to the scene to ensure the bridge was not critically damaged and to assist in the removal of produce.
The driver of the Camry was transported to Erlanger Hospital by Lifeguard EMS. His condition is unknown.
