Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit have identified suspects involved in the homicide of Jabari Jennings and the shooting of Lawande Haggard on Saturday morning at 4009 Fagan St.
The suspects are 21-year-old Derick Smith and 23-year-old Joshua Lackey. Warrants have been obtained for their arrest.
Police said all parties involved are either gang members or associated with gang members, but the incident was not a rival gang conflict. The shooting occurred due to issues with a girlfriend.
In regards to the shooting Saturday evening at 2012 Bennett Ave., the 13-year-old female victim is still listed in critical condition. The incident started in the 2100 block of 12th Street where there were numerous people outside. Two cars started to circle the area with shots being fired from one of the cars. No one was injured at this point.
One of the cars stopped in front of 2012 Bennett Ave., then an unknown person ran up behind the house and began to shoot at the car. This is when the 13-year-old victim was struck by one of the bullets. Investigators have suspect leads and are questioning a person-of-interest at this time.
