The local Chattanooga area members of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island X-24 dedicated a monument to all men and women who have served their country in the Navy Seabee on Saturday.
The monument is located on the Ring of Honor at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The ceremony will featured an address by Rear Admiral Raymond Alexandra, Civil Engineer Corp, United states Navy(Retired). RADM Alexander is a past Battalion Commander of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion and as a flag officer became the first reserve officer to lead a major engineering group in combat when he headed the 200 man Combined Forces Engineer Element in the Battle of Fallujah in the Iraq war.
The unveiling was done by the oldest and youngest Seabee present for the ceremony following Seabee tradition of the cutting of the the birthday cake at the annual Seabee Birthday. The Seabees were authorized on March 5,1942, so this was the celebration of the 70th birthday of their founding in the early days of WWII.
