Lee University’s Squires Hall Series presents the Petar Jankovic Ensemble on Friday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Squires Recital Hall.

Mr. Jankovic, an international award-winning classical guitarist and faculty member at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, challenged the conventional standard of chamber music with the concept of a traditional string quartet led by guitar.

Brad Conroy at GuitarInternational.com said, “Petar Jankovic is one of the finest soloists on the scene today, and he possesses a unique, artistic, and a highly expressive style.”

Mr. Jankovic’s guitar exhibits an infusion of Spanish and Latin American influences with the string quartet’s traditional, classical European music. The ensemble’s diverse repertoire of expressive renditions, from the works of Scarlatti, Vivaldi and Boccerini, to traditional Spanish works by Albeniz, De Falla, and Granados, are well-received across a wide spectrum of listeners.

A native Serbian, Mr. Jankovic earned a degree in classical guitar from the renowned Music Academy in Belgrade. He became a two-time gold medal, silver medal, and two-time bronze medal winner at the National Music Competition, and by age 16, delivered his first professional performance.

Mr. Jankovic earned a master’s degree from the Indiana University School of Music. He was later invited to pursue the esteemed Artist Diploma Degree under the guidance of Maestro Ernesto Bitetti at Indiana University School of Music. He continues sharing his talent through both performing and teaching.

The ensemble is comprised of classically trained, highly-skilled professional artists: Sophie Bird and Grace Kim on violins, Rose Wollman on viola, Maria Martinez on cello, and Mr. Jankovic on guitar.

Tickets for this event, which are available without charge but necessary for admission due to limited seating, will be available in the Dixon Center box office 3–6 p.m. on March 1, 2 and 12–16 and at the Squires Hall doors one hour before the concert.

For further information and assistance call 423 614-8343 during box office hours.

Squires Recital Hall is located in the Humanities Center on Parker Street.
