The USDA Forest Service and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announced that in April and May they will be hosting two “Kids Fishing Day” events in Cherokee National Forest’s Ocoee/Hiwassee Ranger District. Anglers 15 years and under are invited to try their luck.
The first event will be held at Spring Creek on Saturday, April 21, from 7-11 am. Spring Creek Road (FDR 27) is located just north of the Hiwassee River and east of U.S. Highway 411. From Highway 411 take the turn off to Gee Creek Campground, and follow FDR 27, past the new Spring Creek Shooting Range - follow the signs.
The second event, hosted by TWRA, Forest Service, Tennessee State Parks, and the Cherokee Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, will be at McCamy Lake in the Chilhowee Recreation Area on May 12, from 7-11 a.m. From U.S. Highway 64 near the Ocoee Ranger Station turn onto FDR 77 – Ocoee Scenic Byway. Continue up Chilhowee Mountain seven miles to the Chilhowee Recreation Area - follow the signs.
Catchable size trout will be stocked at these locations. Fishing will be restricted to children 15 years of age and under. A non-fishing parent or guardian must accompany all children. Single hook only regulations will apply at Spring Creek. No licenses or permits are required. Prizes will be given away during these events.
