56th Annual Rotary Tennis; Today and Saturday

 The Baylor boys and girls tennis teams are set to defend their respective titles in this weekend’s 56th annual Chattanooga Rotary Prep Tennis tournament, but both teams face strong completion.

Three Locations: The Boys’ A and Girls’ A divisions will be played at Baylor, while Boys’ B is at McCallie and Girls’ B is at GPS.

Boys’ A and Girls’ A Schedule

Friday: Quarterfinals and semifinals (noon) in singles and quarterfinals in doubles (3 p.m.) are played today.

Saturday Finals: Championship singles finals start at 8:30 a.m. at all three sites … doubles semis are at 11 a.m. and finals at 1 p.m.

Boys’ B and Girls’ B Schedule

Friday: Quarterfinals and semis in singles are 9 a.m. and noon and two rounds of doubles in the afternoon.

Saturday Finals: Singles finals start at 8:30 a.m. and doubles finals at 10 a.m.

Boys’ A: Baylor is the defending champion, but two-time defending D-II state champion MBA and St. Xavier (Ky.) and McCallie will be strong foes.

St. Xavier has top seeds in Baylor has No.1 seeds in Alex Gornet (#1), Sean Donohue (#2), while MBA has top seeds in Andrew Graham (#3), Andrew Karpos (#4) and Kalyan Chadalavada (#5). Baylor’s top seed is Jack Gray (#6).

Girls’ A: defending champion Baylor and GPS should battle for the title. The Red Raiders have top seeds in Harper Caswell (#2), Maggie Crumbliss (#3), Morgan McCall (#4), Mary Walker Mixon (#5) and Christine Palispoc (#6), while Huntsville has the other top seed in Kelsey Coots (#1).

Boys’ B: Science Hill has three top seeds led by 2011 AAA state runner-up Michael Chen (#1) … The Hilltoppers should battle University School Jackson and Knox Catholic for the title.

Girls’ B: Science Hill has all three doubles teams as No.1 seeds, while Randolph (Ala.), Siegel, Signal Mountain and Chattanooga Christian should have strong showings.
