A man burglarizing a business off Amnicola Highway learned to his dismay that one of the company employees lived at the firm and was toting heat.
Thomas Randy Hinkle, 56, said he began firing when he spotted a man on a surveillance camera making his way into Integrity Restorations, 2000 Stewart St.
Joseph Daniel Lanier, 37, of 3918 Grave Ave., fled with computers and other electronics he had stolen in two book bags.
But he did not get far. Police found him lying on the ground on nearby Ortin Street. The book bags were covered with blood.
He told police he had been shot and admitted carrying out the burglary.
Lanier was taken into custody after being treated at Erlanger Hospital. He was charged with aggravated burglary and theft over $500.
Lanier has a lengthy record of theft and driving offenses.
