A Bradley County deputy sheriff responding to a burglar alarm Saturday morning at a home on El Monte Drive spotted flames on the front porch to another home nearby.
Deputy Tommy Kimsey ran to the door and alerted the people inside.
When the front door was opened a vacuum pulled flames inside. The 35-year-old man and seven-year-old son had been in bed and were unaware the porch was on fire. The fire spread quickly forcing Deputy Kimsey and the two to flee out a back door.
Deputy Kimsey received a minor injury to his face from intense heat. He was treated at SkyRidge Medical Center but was dismissed and returned to duty. The man and his son were not injured.
Units responded from Bradley County Fire - Rescue to extinguish the fire. But the home, described as a double wide mobile home, received significant damage.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
