Despite facing an early deficit, the Lookouts gradually got back into the game, ultimately coming away with a 5-3 win over the Birmingham Barons in Monday night action at AT&T Field.
Birmingham jumped off to an early 3-0 lead. Tyler Saladino led off the game with a triple and promptly crossed home plate on a subsequent Drew Garcia single. Andy Wilkins kept the momentum going with a ground-rule double to put two runners into scoring position. Seth Loman then hit a grounder to first baseman J.T. Wise, who after an aperçu towards Garcia racing home, decided to get the sure out at first. Jose Martinez followed with an RBI single to account for the third run of the inning.
The Lookouts manufactured their first run of the game in the bottom of the third. Jake Lemmerman led off with a double and advanced to third on a subsequent fly out by Griff Erickson. Rafael Ynoa brought home Lemmerman with a bounding infield single down the third-base line.
Chattanooga tied up the score in the bottom of the fifth. Pedro Baez hit a towering shot over the left field wall to put the Lookouts within one. Travis Denker followed with a double and made his way to third on a Lemmerman ground out. Erickson then hit a grounder to shortstop Tyler Saladino, which allowed Denker to score. Erickson reached first on the play on an errant throw by Saladino on the play; however, the Lookouts would not produce another run in the fifth frame.
Lemmerman’s productive night continued in the sixth, as he hit a two-RBI triple to give the Lookouts a 5-3 lead.
Shawn Tolleson shut the door on the Barons in the final two frames to preserve the win for the Lookouts, earning his third save of the season in the process.
