Vernon Eugene Garrett, 81, of Chickamauga, died on Monday, April 16, 2012 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a lifelong resident of Sand Mountain and Chickamauga and was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1994 from Synthetic Industries and had also worked at Crystal Springs Bleachery for many years. His passions in life were his family, riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, country music, and enjoying the company of his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Stone Garrett; parents, Fred and Mae Garrett; and sister, Faye Garrett.
Survivors include his daughters, Shirley (James) Clark of Trenton, Ga., and Darlene (Johnny) Stansell of Soddy Daisy; brother, Ernest (Evelyn) Garrett of Chickamauga; sisters, Shirley (Bernell) Franklin of Atlanta, and Doyce Lansford of Chattanooga; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Dr. Terry Trivett officiating. Interment will follow in the Chickamauga City Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 19, from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, from noon until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
