Lee’s Percussion Ensemble To Perform With Scott Herring

The Lee University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, will be performing with guest artist Dr. Scott Herring on April 24. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The pieces they will be performing include Aria by David Long, Living Room Music by John Cage, and a Stevie Wonder medley arranged by Lee student, Mason Brown.

Also on the program will be the premiere of Harnsberger's The Consequence of Envy featuring six players.

Dr. Herring will be performing Stubernic by Mark Ford and Tiger Dance by JD Smith with the percussion ensemble. 

Dr. Herring currently holds the position of associate professor of Percussion at the University of South Carolina. At USC, Dr. Herring directs the Percussion Ensemble and the Palmetto Pans Steel Band. Previously, he served as assistant professor of Percussion and assistant director of Bands at Emporia State University in Emporia, KS.

Dr. Herring also performs with the Shiraz Percussion Trio and the RoseWind Duo. These groups have appeared at numerous universities, music festivals, and Percussive Arts Society Days of Percussion throughout the U.S. He released his debut CD with the RoseWind Duo in November 2008.

While residing in Chicago, Dr. Herring performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago under the batons of Daniel Barenboim, John Adams and Pierre Boulez.  He has presented clinics and concerts across the globe. Herring is an endorser of Dynasty Percussion Instruments, Innovative Percussion mallets and sticks, Zildjian Cymbals, Grover Pro Percussion products, and Evans Drumheads.  He performs exclusively on the Dynasty Mark Ford signature 5.0 octave marimba with mallets by Innovative Percussion.

Dr. Harnsberger serves as Lee’s director of percussion studies and artist-in-residence with a versatile career as a performer and educator. He has performed in a variety of settings across the United States, Europe, and Japan and presents numerous solo recitals and clinics throughout the country each year.
