Covenant Tennis Teams Finish Season With Road Wins

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant tennis teams ended the 2012 season on a positive note on Tuesday afternoon as both teams recorded wins over GSAC opponent LaGrange College. The men were victorious by a score of 7-2, while the women cruised to an 8-1 win.

The Scots end the season with a 4-8 overall record and 4-4 in conference matches. The Lady Scots finish 6-7 overall and 5-3 in GSAC play.


On the men's side, Jonathan Herberich and Tom Yates teamed up to defeat LaGrange's Blake Craft and Nate Moore 8-5 in doubles competition. Jon Leverett and Roy Anderson won their doubles match 9-8 (7-5) over Joe Strickland and Kevin Folsom.

Covenant dominated the singles competition as the Scots won five of the six matches. Herberich took out Craft 6-2, 6-3, and Yates knocked off Alex Glass 6-2, 6-1. Clark Sealy won 6-1, 6-4 over Moore, while Anderson went three sets with Folsom before winning 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3). Leverett rounded out the Covenant victories with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Strickland.

The Lady Scots took care of business in doubles play as they won all three matches, then won five of six in singles play. Madi Hyatt paired with Lauren Redberg to take out the LaGrange duo of Caroline Brashier and Kelsey Ellison 8-4. Hyatt and Redberg finish the year 5-1 in GSAC doubles matches. Sarah Carter and Stephanie Sizemore defeated Brittany Gray and Courtney Bishop 8-1, while Anne Marie Rowe and Gretchen Rowe shut out Taylor Baldwin and Stephanie Harris 8-0.

In singles play, Gretchen Rowe knocked off Ellison 6-2, 6-1, while sister Anne Marie Rowe defeated Angelica Wilcox in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Redberg also recorded a straight set win over Bishop 6-0, 6-0. Carter took out Gray 6-4, 6-1, while Sizemore defeated Nicole Wilson 6-1, 6-2.

A woman was found dead on Sunday morning at 8912 Lovell Road, and police are seeking a "person of interest" in the case. Deputies responded to that location at approximately 8 a.m. on a suspicious death. On arrival "deputies found a dead female in her 30s deceased from an apparent homicide."
