County Commission Turns Down Don Walker Townhouse Project At Hurricane Creek Entrance

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

The County Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday to deny rezoning for a townhouse project by developer Don Walker near the entrance to the Hurricane Creek subdivision in East Brainerd.

No one appeared to speak for the project, though there were some opponents in the audience.

Commission Chairman Larry Henry said there were safety concerns because the site at the 1100 block of Hurricane Creek Road is on a hill and a curve.

He said Hurricane Creek Road leads not only to the 550-home subdivision, but to a second subdivision.

The staff of the Regional Planning Agency and the Planning Commission had recommended denial.

The commission did approve rezoning for a townhouse project for developer Julian Bell at 7023 Hixson Pike.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem - And Response

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem. The boat blocks the view of and from the prettiest park in our town. The crew take many of the parking spots around the park leaving families to park across Frazier and schlep their kids, strollers and picnics to the park. You don't get fireworks ... (click for more)
