The Local Birth and Baby Fair, sponsored by Chattanooga Mama, will showcase over 35 vendors, including childbirth practitioners, health care providers, educators, doulas, local merchants, and more on May 5.
The fair will be held at the Brainerd Crossroads BX and is free to the public. It will offer over a dozen classes and door prizes, including a free crib from Children’s Fair, kids activities, and cotton tote bags filled with samples for expectant and breastfeeding mothers, newborns, and children for the first 200 families who attend.
“What is unique about the sponsors and vendors participating in the fair is that they all support mother-friendly maternity care as defined by the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative,” says Carolyn Drake, founder of Chattanooga Mama, a local nonprofit organization with the mission to educate expectant families and the community about choices in childbirth. The mother-friendly model focuses on prevention and wellness in maternity care as an alternative to high-cost screening, diagnosis, and treatment programs. “New and expectant parents,” MS. Drake says, “will find this fair to be informative, fun and convenient.”
