UTC's Kriwa Second At SoCon Track Championships

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Emmanuel Kirwa (Kapsabet, Kenya) and junior Mark Cole (McKenzie, Tenn.) earned all-conference honors Saturday in the 10,000 meter run on Day One of the Southern Conference Championships at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, N.C.
 
Kirwa finished second in the event with a time of 31:43.81 followed by Cole in third with a time of 31:46.70. UNCG’s Paul Katam took first in the event with championship pace of 31:26.

Freshman Keeley Stewart (Winchester, Tenn.) finished 10th in the women’s 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:22.84 and earned a spot on the Southern Conference All-Freshman team.
 
In the men’s 3000 meter Steeplechase, sophomore Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario) placed sixth with a PR time of 9:24.17 and earned three points with his finish to put the Mocs fifth after the first day of competition.
 
Freshman Dezerick Frazier (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) finished second in the third heat of the 400 meter dash and fourth overall to earn an automatic spot in the finals to be run Sunday. Frazier posted his second best time of the season running the event in 48.82 seconds.
 
Also earning a spot in the finals on Sunday is junior Blake Olson in the men’s 400 meter Hurdles. Olson finished fifth overall in the race with a PR time of 54.94.
 
Sunday’s events include the 1500 and 5000 meter events along with the relays and finals of the 400 meter dash and 400 meter hurdles.
