Jones, Isabelle Holmes (Chickamauga)

Isabelle Holmes Jones, born March 3, 1921, died peacefully at her home in Chickamauga, Ga., Sunday evening, April 22, 2012.  

She was a beloved wife,mother, grandmother, teacher, and mentor. Isabelle was born in Chattanooga, and was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga/Chickamauga areas.  

A graduate of East Tennessee State Teachers College, she was a mathematics teacher in the Chickamauga school system for many years until her retirement in 1985. During that time, she received her Master’s degree from University of South Carolina and taught mathematics at Lander College, Greenwood, S.C., for two years and at Henderson High School in Atlanta, for three years.  

She was a dedicated church member and was a member of Hope Fellowship Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Chickamauga, Ga. 

She is survived by John William, her husband of 64 years; her sons, Stephen (Sarah) and Andrew; grandchildren, Faith (David), Andrew (Charity), Elisabeth, and Abigail; and three great-grandchildren, Isabelle Ann, Jack and Lena.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Reverends Michael Thomas and Travis Hutchinson.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 25, from 6-9 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Homes, 3239 Battlefield Parkway, Fort Oglethorpe.
