3rd Annual Do The Derby To Benefit Chattanooga's Kids On The Block

Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block will host its third annual Do the Derby…Chattanooga Style with a Twist, on Saturday, May 5, at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. In addition to the traditional live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby at approximately 6 p.m., local celebrities will take the track using stick horses, vying for the title of Chattanooga’s Derby winner.

 

Following the broadcast of the Kentucky Derby Race, the first Annual Chattanooga Celebrity Derby Relay Race for the Roses will be held on AT&T Field.

Three-person teams will take to the track, using stick horses, racing for the title and trophy of Chattanooga’s Derby Winner.

 

Running for the Roses in the local race include teams from:  WDEF Mornings, 95.3 Cat Country, WUSY US101, Chattanooga Lookouts and Northwest Georgia Bank.

 

Guests will walk the red carpet onto “Millionaire’s Row” on Saturday, May 5 at AT&T Field, from 4:30-11 p.m., to celebrate the Kentucky Derby Chattanooga style with a twist. Guests will be welcomed by the GPS String Orchestra, celebrity impersonators Brett Michaels, Elton John and Flo from Progressive Insurance, as well as traditional mint juleps and margaritas.

 

This year’s event will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour, “My Old Kentucky Home” performed by the Alhambra Highlander Bagpipe Band, the National Anthem performed live by Walt Marler and the Kentucky Derby broadcast live on the AT&T field jumbotron.

 

While participating in the festivities of the Derby, guests will enjoy the all inclusive tantalizing afternoon and evening buffets, complimentary beer and wine bar, the outdoor bourbon and cigar tent, enter in Big Hat and Best Dressed contests for prizes and try their skills at piñata games filled with gift cards and give aways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

 

The event will also host a Silent Auction featuring several get-away packages such as Disney park hopper tickets, trips to St. Lucia, Antigua, and Nashville, fine jewelry, art and collectibles. The evening will conclude with dancing in Bourbon Alley with music provided by DJ Stoney.

 

Do the Derby…Chattanooga Style with a Twist, is an all inclusive fundraising event benefiting Chattanooga‘s Kids on the Block. For the past 32 years, using the power of puppetry, CKOB has provided educational programs for children on social concerns and differences, giving them the skills to stay safe and healthy. CKOB serves 14 counties in Tennessee and North Georgia and is one of the oldest, most active and respected troupes in the United States.


Gates open at 4:30 p.m. at AT&T Field. Tickets are available starting at $40/individual, $75/couple, and VIP tickets/ $125 per couple. There is also a Post Derby Party ticket for $25 each, if entering after 8 p.m.
