Billie Barnes Chapman, 97, died on April 25, 2012.

She lived in Lenoir City, Tn., and was formerly from Chattanooga.  

Her husband of 67 years, Carl I. Chapman, passed away Oct. 25, 2003.

She was born in Bakewell, Tn. and graduated from Soddy High School.  She attended MTSU in Murfreesboro, and McKenzie Business School, in Chattanooga.

She was the secretary of Soddy Schools and was the first secretary at the Soddy Daisy High School.  She worked at Hamilton County Department of Education and was the school secretary at Tyner High School. She later was the executive secretary to the late Elmer Burnett, Division Manager of IDS (Now Ameriprise Financial) for 23 years. 

She was a Sunday School teacher for over 25 years and was prayer chairman of the Mission Circle at Red Bank Baptist Church for 15 years. She was also a member of the Chancel Choir and the Prime Time Singers.  She joined Red Bank Baptist in 1941 and remained to be a member there when she died. 

She was active in American Business Women Association, Chattanooga, Choo Choo Chapter, and was selected to be “Women of the Year” in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her mother and father, Alice Spradling Barnes and W. L. Barnes; two brothers, John Robert and Edwin C. Barnes.

Survivors are her daughter, Billie Ruth Rich and son-in-law, Gary Rich of Knoxville; grandson, Michael and wife, Tonja of Powell, Tn.; granddaughter, Angel Partin Johnson and husband Brian, Knoxville; and seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Natalie, Hannah, Michael and Zeke rich of Powell; Jeremiah Partin and Bailey Johnson, Knoxville; two sisters, Mrs. Helen McRee and Virginia Barnes, Hixson.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Services for Mrs. Chapman will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 30, at the North Chapel with John Tunstall officiating.  Burial will follow at National Cemetery where Billie will be laid to rest with her husband, Carl.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
