Mattie Ruth White Thomas, 78, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, April 23, 2012.
Ruth’s family and friends remember her as a kind-hearted, generous woman whose loving spirit enveloped all those around her. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Thomas, Sr.; parents, James White and Hattie Mae Lucky; grandparents, Author and Annie Mae Silmon; aunt and uncle, Ruben and Lula Mae Harrington; two grandson, Antonio Walton and Jonathan Finch.
She leaves a legacy of love and beautiful memories of her life to daughters, Mildred Ector, Delores Hughley, Janice Thomas, Colette Finch, Felicia Pruitt of Chattanooga; sons, Williams H. Thomas, Jr. of Miami, FL; Charles High, Dexter High of Chattanooga; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hattie Louise Owens; a very special cousin, Mary Helen Lewis; three special friends, Henry Crumpton, Mary Newby and Lillian Miller of Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, in the chapel. Interment will be on Monday, April 30, at 10 a.m. at National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Saturday at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
