East Ridge Police have placed Officer Sean Merriman on paid administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation related to a hit and run.

The suspension comes after the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash involving Officer Merriman’s personal vehicle.

The hit and run traffic crash was reported to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 2:35 a.m. after it occurred in the 8300 block of Blue Spruce Road in Middle Valley.  Deputies arrived on the scene to find a parked Chevrolet S10 pickup truck had been struck.

The suspect vehicle left the scene but officers were able to follow a fuel trail to an address in the 8100 block of Blue Spruce Road.

There they found a 2004 Jeep Cherokee with heavy damage. The vehicle was towed as being involved in a hit and run traffic crash.

The suspect vehicle was registered to Officer Merriman.

The traffic crash investigation is ongoing.
