Monday, April 30, 2012

The Chattanooga Music Club will present Dr. Robert Delcamp, organist, and the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Youth Orchestras’ Symphony Orchestra, directed by Gary Wilkes, in concert on Monday, May 7, at Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m.  The concert is open to the public without charge.  Donations toward the maintenance of the organ and funding for future programs will be appreciated.

The 81 rank Austin pipe organ will be highlighted as organist Delcamp and the orchestra perform one of Andre Guilmant’s most beloved works, Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra, Op. 42.  This will be the first time since the organ was restored that the organ will be heard with an orchestra.  Dr. Delcamp and the orchestra will be highlighted individually as well.

Dr. Delcamp is professor of Music and University organist and choirmaster at the University of the South in Sewanee.  Mr. Wilkes, orchestra director at the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences, has been the music director and conductor of the Chattanooga Symphony Youth Orchestras for 19 years.
