Catherine Stiles

Catherine Davis Stiles, 70, of Chickamauga, Georgia, died on Sunday, April 29, 2012 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Stiles was born on November 16, 1941, to the late Leroy Webb Davis, II and Dorothy Wilson Davis in Norfolk, Va.  She was the oldest Davis grandchild of 27.  She lived the first few years of her life with her grandmother during World War II and at that time she developed her love of cats. She was a 1960 graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Va., and she attended Elon College in North Carolina.

Several years after college, one of Mrs. Stiles good friends encouraged her to move to Atlanta to find a husband.  A couple of months later, she met her “Prince Charming” while playing tennis at a city park in Atlanta.  Catherine and Bob “Stiles” married on August 23, 1969, moved to North Georgia, and purchased Flegal Insurance in 1970.

Mr. and Mrs. Stiles built their home in Chickamauga in 1978, where they have lived ever since. Chickamauga offered the small community that she loved.  Her home was her sanctuary and a place to live, raise her family, and all of her pets. This was a very special place along with her grandmother’s farm in Gordonsville, Va., called the Happy Creek Farms.

She attended many events at the Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church, was a longtime member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Chattanooga, and was currently a member of the Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe.  She was very involved in the Chickamauga Community with the Chickamauga Women’s Club and the Chickamauga Library, both having a special place in her heart.  She was an officer and Director for Atlantic Dominion Distributors, Hoffman Beverage Company, and S&K Sales Company.

Mrs. Stiles was well-known for her zany sense of humor and her Halloween parties.  She was also a compassionate, kind, and generous lady who had a willing spirit to help anyone in need.  Her passions in life were her family, special afternoons with her grandsons, friends, games, and pranks.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy W. Davis III.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Robert David Stiles, Sr.; three children, Robert David Stiles, Jr. (Cary) of Chickamauga, Wilson Webb Stiles, Sr. (Chrissy) of Fort Oglethorpe, and Laura Stiles Eldridge (Todd) of Chickamauga; sister, Robin Davis Ray (Richard) of Virginia Beach, Va.; her five beloved grandsons “five guys”, Ryan Eldridge, Reece Eldridge, Davis Eldridge, Robert D. Stiles III (Tripp), and Wilson “Webb” Stiles, Jr.; niece, Katherine McGuire Hines (Aaron); great niece, Merideth McGuire Hines; and special friend, Peggy Ball and her daughter, Sheena English.
