Fundraiser for Restoring Historic Markers in LaFayette on April 12

Thursday, April 05, 2012

A fundraiser to help with the cost of restoring LaFayette’s six historic markers will be held on Thursday, April 12, at the LaFayette Pizza Hut.

Vouchers may also be used at Pizza Hut locations in Chickamauga, Fort Oglethorpe and Ringgold.  Vouchers are good for dine-in, delivery and take-out.

LaFayette’s Historic Preservation Commission and Downtown Development Authority are spearheading the efforts to raise funds to restore the five markers in front of Chattooga Academy and the one at Fort Cumming.  These markers were erected by the state historical society in the 1950s.

The cost to replace the posts and to restore the markers, which will include removing rust, preparing and re-painting, will be $4,500.  The Wal-mart Foundation has generously donated $2,000 towards the cost, and civic groups in LaFayette have donated or pledged about $500.

To support the project, a customer turns in the coupon when paying the check, and 20 percent of sale will be donated towards the sign.  Restrictions are listed on the coupon.  If less than $499 is spent in the restaurant that day, the total donated would be 10 percent of the sale.

To print out a coupon for the fundraiser, visit www.cityoflafayettega.org .
