Baylor defeated GPS, 5-2, Tuesday in a D-II high school tennis match and clinched the top seed in the Middle/East Region for the upcoming state tournament.
Baylor (10-0) opened by winning two of three doubles matches for the doubles point and then won four of the six singles matches.
Match of the Day: At No.1 singles, Baylor’s Samantha Caswell rallied from down a set to edge Michelle Fleenor, 3-6, 6-2,6-2.
“These two have had some battles and it gets closer each time they play,”said Baylor girls’ coach Dustin Kane.
“It was encouraging to win one of the three doubles matches, plus winning at five and six singles and a great match at one,” said GPS coach Sue Bartlett.
D-II Singles-Doubles Region: Saturday and Sunday at Baylor …
Saturday – 9 a.m., round of 16 and quarters …
Sunday – semis and finals and consolation finals …
The top five in singles and doubles advance to the state tournament.
