Two Moc Runners Compete At Georgia Tech Invite Friday

Thursday, May 10, 2012
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s and women’s track team will have a small contingent of runners at the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday night at the George C. Griffin Track and Field Complex.

Senior Chris Berry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) will run the men’s 1500 meter Friday night as he preps for his run at the NCAA East Region meet on May 24. Berry, with the third fastest time in the 10,000 meter in the South Region, earned a spot at the East Region meet later this month.

Sophomore Amanda Sumner (Bristol, Conn.) holds her fate in her hands as she tries to enter a qualifying time for the women’s 5000 meter run. She was on pace to finish in a near school-record time in the event at the Stanford Invitational in early April, but was forced out of the race with a foot injury.

Without a qualifying time, she was unable to compete in the event in the Southern Conference Championships but did post an all-conference finish in the women’s 1500 meter race.

The NCAA holds just two region meets. Top athletes from each region will earn a spot at the NCAA National Championships.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
