Log Cabin Heavily Damaged By Fire On Mowbray Mountain

Thursday, May 10, 2012

Quick work by Mowbray firefighters Thursday night contained a fire to the first floor of a log cabin at 2630 Poe Road on Mowbray Mountain.

The homeowner, Karen Parsons, called 911 at 8:30 p.m., and reported the fire. The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported heavy smoke coming out the front of the house. Firefighters entered the home and quickly extinguished the fire in the living room and kitchen area. Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department responded as well to assist the Mowbray VFD.

Mrs. Parson reported she had gone outside to feed her horses when she heard a popping noise. She looked toward the house and saw smoke pouring out the eaves of the house. She ran to a neighbor's house to call 911.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. According to fire officials, damages are listed at $75,000. No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries.

The Parsons were insured and will be staying with friends.
