Authorities said kidnapper Adam Mayes shot and killed himself, then two girls he had kidnapped were found alive early Friday morning. The trio had been spotted in woods behind a church near New Albany, Miss.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the 25th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office earlier had charged Mayes and ex-wife Teresa Mayes, 31, both of Guntown, Ms., with two counts each of first-degree murder for the deaths of 31-year-old Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter Adrienne Bain in Hardeman County, Tn.

on April 27. Teresa Mayes is from Chatsworth, Ga.

Both were also facing two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping for the abduction of 12-year-old Alexandria Bain and eight-year-old Kyliyah Bain. Teresa Mayes remains in the Hardeman County Jail without bond.

A total of $71,000 had been offered for information leading to Mayes’ arrest and the location of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain. $50,000 was being offered by the U.S. Marshals, $15,000 from Governor Bill Haslam and $6,000 from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

JoAnn Bain and her daughters were reported missing on April 27, from their Whiteville- Newcastle Road home in Hardeman County. Adam Mayes, who was considered a friend of the family, was with them in their home early that morning. The investigation has revealed that Mayes killed Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain at their residence then he and Teresa Mayes transported their corpses to Union County, Miss. The bodies were later discovered in a shallow grave behind Mary Mayes’ residence. The murders were directly a part of the kidnapping of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain.

On Monday, Mary Frances Mayes, 65, of Guntown, Ms., was charged and arrested on four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping. She is Adam Mayes’ mother and is being held in the Hardeman County Jail on $300,000 bond. Teresa Mayes was also originally taken into custody in Union County, Miss. on Monday. Both Mary and Teresa Mayes are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 22, at 9 a.m.

Adam Mayes was last seen in Guntown on May 1 prior to officers locating him and surrounding him and the kidnapped girls.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem. The boat blocks the view of and from the prettiest park in our town. The crew take many of the parking spots around the park leaving families to park across Frazier and schlep their kids, strollers and picnics to the park. You don't get fireworks ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: 50 Facts About Our Bodies

Maybe 20 years ago I became entranced by a book called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” It was co-authored by a surgeon, Paul Brand, and a Christian writer, Phillip Yancey, and gave one specific after another about the human body and how only God could have created such a miraculous machine. Today the book is a classic and I have marveled ever since over how unbelievable human ... (click for more)
