Mary Tyler Newman Seay, affectionately known to family and friends as “Tee,” died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. A native of Milton, North Carolina, Mary lived in Knoxville until moving to Chattanooga in 1991.
She was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and took joy in serving as a worship leader in nursing homes in Knoxville and Chattanooga for more than 40 years. Mary adored and was adored by her precious children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Elizabeth Townes Newman; a daughter, Kathy Boles and brother, Halcott Newman.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Thomas S. Seay; daughter, Bette (Hank) Rippert, Chattanooga; Grandchildren, Thomas Boles, Chattanooga, Andrew (Valerie) Boles, Sevierville; Haley (Tim) Williams, and Hannah Boles, Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Emmy, Addy and Lucy Williams, Chattanooga and Brayden Boles, Sevierville.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 13 at the North Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at North Chapel with Tim Williams officiating, with burial to follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
