John Gilbert Hawkins, 88, of Cleveland, Tn., died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mr. Hawkins was the son of the late Joe and Lula Hawkins and was a member of The Goodwill Baptist Church where he was a deacon. A proud World War II veteran he fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the Olin Corporation with over 20 years of service and prior to that he worked at the old Hardwick foundry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Emma Hawkins; their children and spouses, Judy and Paul Elliot of Hartsgrove Oh., Cathy and Bobby Mantooth of Cleveland and Paul and Yvonda Hawkins also of Cleveland; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Gatha Humbard of Cleveland; one brother, Clifford Hawkins of Chatsworth; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 11 at the Wildwood Ave chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Rev. Larry Humbard officiating. Interment will follow at the Hilcrest Cemetery.
