Craig, John Keith (Cleveland)

John Keith Craig, 90, of Cleveland, Tn., died on Thursday, May 10, 2012. 

Mr. Craig was born December 2, 1921 on the family farm just east of Thorntown, Ind. His parents were John Carl and Ollie Edith (McKenzie) Craig. 

He is preceded in death by his sister, Jennie Hester Ginn (Kenneth); and his brother, Kemper M. Craig (Mary). 

Mr. Craig served in the Pacific in WWII with the 16th Signal Army Battalion. He was awarded campaign ribbons for landings at Leyte, Luzon and New Guinea. He returned to Indiana following his service and began farming and raising livestock on the family farm, which he continued to do for over 50 years. He was also a heavy equipment operator. On August 27, 1949, he wed Iris Jane Redman. She preceded him in death in 1990. 

Mr. Craig is survived by his daughter, Pamela Elaine Pickering (Mark) of Cleveland; son, Kenneth David Craig of Thorntown; and daughter, Debra Jane Rodriguez (Glenn) of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, John Andrew Pickering, Alison Marie Pickering Parden (Justin),Carmen Rodriguez Cripps (James), Glendali Rodriguez-Howard (Turner) and ZamaraRodriguez Johnson (Levi); and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Cripps, Ruben and Lorenzo Rodriguez, and Olevir and Zori Johnson. 

His immediate family will celebrate his life with a private memorial service in Boone County, Indiana, at a future date.

Slaughter, Keenan Scott (Jasper)

Keenan Scott Slaughter, 52, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Slaughter and Millie Duvall Sloan. He was an employee of Lowes Home Improvement Store in Kimball, TN. William "Bill" Wills Dowdy

William “Bill” Wills Dowdy, 82, died on May 23, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a very brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy. Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
