Dorothy Brewer “Dot” Straughn, 87, died on Friday, May 11, 2012. 

She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga.

Dot was an active member of Brainerd Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She  taught music at Boyd-Buchanan School and numerous piano students as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Straughn, Sr. and parents, Robert L. and Ruth Brewer.

Survivors include her sons, Dale Jr. (Linda), David (Karen) and Paul (Connie); grandchildren, Lori, Jared, Alan and Nathan Straughn, Kerra Williams, John Nowlin, Ginger Holton and Gena Schmahl; and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Anne) Brewer Jr and Charles (Evelyn) Brewer; and sister-in-law, Alice (Quentin) Clark.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 14, from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday, May 15, from 10-11 a.m. at the East Chapel. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at East Chapel with Robert Brewer, Jr.  officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brainerd Church of Christ, 4203 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37411, or Martin-Boyd Christian Home, 6845 Standifer Gap Rd, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
