A SWAT Team was called on Sunday night to a Soddy Daisy residence where an 18-year-old had barricaded himself while armed with an assault rifle, authorities said.
Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services were called to 12410 NeeCee Laney at approximately 11:29 p.m. to check on a person involved in a fall. When medical personnel arrived on the scene it was found that Hunter Thomas had barricaded himself in the home.
According to information given to deputies by family members, the teen had been acting bizarre and officers found he was also armed with a loaded AK-47.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s SWAT and Negotiation team were called to the scene. Negotiations with Thomas continued through the night and at one point he aimed his loaded weapon at officers. Safety precautions were put in place to secure the surrounding neighborhood.
Around 5:40 a.m. the teen came out onto the roof of the residence armed with the AK-47, but deputies with the SWAT team were able to take him into custody. He was to be charged with six counts of aggravated assault and six counts of pointing a laser at officers.
He was checked on scene by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services, and was to be transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
