Mildred Virginia Abercrombie, 98, of Chattanooga, died on May 13, 2012. 

She was born July 15, 1913 in Cedartown, Ga., to John Alton and Electa Frances Fields. They moved to Chattanooga in 1915. She was employed by JC Penney Company, for 13 years. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter C. “Bud” Abercrombie, daughter Joan O’Guin; sisters Forrest Houts, Frances Wright, Betty McDaris; brothers John W. Fields, Alton Fields and Wilburn Fields.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Robert H. “Buddy” O’Guin, Jr. (Angela) and Leesa (David) Jennings; 10 great-grandchildren, Tiffany (Thomas) Hash, Ryan (Shannon) O’Guin, Lindsay Helton (Butch Ownby), Mary Katherine O’Guin, McGavock O’Guin, Corey Hash, Savanna Hash, Cassidy Hash, Steven Nichols and Jadah Ownby; two great-great-grandchildren, Gabriel Helton and Caleb Ownby; sister, Minnielu Jackson.

Mrs. Abercrombie’s family would like to thank Linda Williams for her devoted and loving care that has made her part of the family.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Abercrombie’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, Suite 8, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
