Howle, Mary Jane (Cleveland)

Mary Jane Howle, 82, of Cleveland, Tn., died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at her home. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Howle; her parents, George Clark and Marie Finkle Clark; and two sisters, Alice Buttrey and Joy Chisholm. 

She was very active in the local community serving as President of the PTA, President of the Garden Club and President of the Holston Conference of United Methodist Women. She had been actively involved in the local Republican Party, served as Sunday School Teacher for many years, had been the co-owner of Vend Incorporated, Nickel Coffee Service and co-owner of Earls Restaurant. Among her highly active life she was most passionate about her Ministry and work with Teen Challenge which would later become Life Challenge. She was the director of Teen Challenge for over 20 years where she truly loved working with and ministering to young people and adults. She was a charter member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Melanie Gaston and her hsband Terry of Cleveland and Rebecca McKenzie and her husband Toby of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Jared Gaston, Clark Gaston, Mary Beth Baker and Meagan Frey; three great-grandchildren, Bo Baker, Dawson Satterfield and Joey Frey; two brothers, Tommy Clark and his wife Willa Dean Clark of Cleveland and Bradley Clark of Cleveland; one sister, Carolyn Lawson and her husband Harley of Murfreesboro; special caregivers, Patti and Walter Kicklighter of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert L. Smith and Pastor Gary Sears officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Terry Gaston, Jared Gaston, Clark Gaston, Harley Lawson, Jim Henderson, Sonny Hicks, Larry Brand and Ken Webb serving as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday, May 15 from 2-4 p.m.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
