County School board members are being asked to approve a $1 million grant from the Battelle Institute over two years for the launch of a STEM School located on the campus of Chattanooga State.
Supt. Rick Smith said demolition work for the STEM School has been completed.
He said, "We have reached the point of needing to purchase materials/equipment/services for the necessary renovation. Any further delay in our ability to purchase materials/supplies/services will jeopardize having the project ready for occupancy this fall.
"
He told the board, "I request you consider allowing purchase of the necessary materials/equipment/services from our Capital Projects Fund; with the funds to be reimbursed to the Capital Projects Fund by the Southeast Tennessee STEM Initiative as their funding efforts continue.
"I request authorization to purchase materials/equipment/services in an amount not to exceed $500,000. All HCDE purchasing regulations will be followed in the purchase of these material/equipment/services."
He listed donations to HCDE on behalf of the STEM Initiative to date:
- All Architectural/Engineering Services
- All Plumbing Fixtures
- All Lighting Fixtures; General Interior Lights, Emergency Lights, Exit Lights, Exterior Lights
- All HVAC Controls
- All Fire Alarm Equipment
