Chattanooga Prep Netters Advance to State

Five Chattanooga area schools will be represented in singles and doubles at next week's BlueCross Spring Fling XIX state tournament in Murfreesboro.

Chattanooga Christian, Signal Mountain and Chattanooga Arts and Sciences are sending doubles teams to the A-AA tournament, while Cleveland (singles) and Rhea County (doubles) will be represented in AAA boys.

The Region 3 A-AA singles tournament will be completed on Tuesday at the Champions Club..

Region 3 A-AA (The Racquet Club in Hixson)

Boys Doubles: Raymond Kim/Ian Derthick (CSAS) def. Boston Londis/Michael Chung, 7-6 (4), 6-4

Region 4 A-AA (at Tennessee Tech)

Girls

Singles: Carley Hatcliff (Murfreesboro Central Magnet) won the singles title for the second straight year

Doubles: The sister duo of Ellie and Hannah Henry (Chattanooga Christian) won the region doubles title.

Notes: Ellie Henry reached the state doubles semis a year ago with Gretchen Rowe (now at Covenant College) and now qualifies for the state with her sister.

Boys

Singles: Mason Grear (Murfreesboro Central Magnet) won the singles title

Doubles: In doubles, Forrest Hooten/ Luke Wolfe of Signal Mountain defeated Notre Dame's Charles Jabaley/Tyler Ross, 6-3, 6-0

Notes: Jabaley/Ross had beaten Hooten/Wolfe in the District 5 final last week in three sets.

Luke Wolfe is in the state tournament for the second year as he won the 2011 region singles and lost to eventual state runner-up Jackson Lenoir (Chattanooga Arts and Sciences) in the semis.

Region 3 AAA (at Cookeville HS and Tenn Tech)

Girls

Singles: Nithya Kanagasegar (Cumberland Co.) defeated Maclain Yowarsky (Walker Valley), 6-1, 4-6, 6-2

Doubles: Lindsay Lloyd/Madalyn Little (Cookeville) defeated Taylor Thompson/Victoria Williams (McMinn Co.), 7-6 (2), 6-1

Boys

Singles: Alex Klibisz (Cleveland) def. Michael Barlok (McMinn Co.), 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-0

Doubles: Zach Madewell/Nick McWherter (Rhea Co.) def. Zach Barringer/Jake Gibson Cleveland), 6-3, 6-1

The singles final was a re-match of the District 5 final, as Klibisz edged Barlok in straight sets last week.
