For Jackson Lenoir (CSAS) and Taylor Johnson (East Hamilton) the magic number for a state title is now 3.
Having won the district and region singles titles, these two seniors advance to the BlueCross Spring Fling XIX state tennis tournament next week in Murfreesboro at Old Fort Park.
In Tuesday's Region 3 final, Lenoir (22-0) rallied to beat Blake Savard (Grace), 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-1, while Johnson defeated Alicia Salazar (Collegedale), 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Emily Brown and Taylor Eades (Boyd-Buchanan) won the region doubles crown with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph against Dani-Lou Voigt and Emily Wilt (Collegedale).
The opening round (quarterfinals) of the state individual tournament is May 24 with quarterfinals and semifinals played on the 24th and finals in all divisions on May 25.
In the state quarterfinals, Lenoir faces James Vaughn (Ripley), while Johnson meets the Region 6 winner.
Brown and Eades face Julea Tignor/Kennedy Brookfield (Trinity Christian) in the quarters.
