The County Commission on Wednesday approved rezoning for a retirement center at 13213 and 13217 Dayton Pike in Soddy Daisy.
The unanimous approval came despite opposition from Red Bank Judge Johnny Houston and other neighbors.
Judge Houston said he owns property next to the site being planned for development by Jim and Jana Lind. He said the site is in a residential area, and he said there was little notice given of the rezoning. He said he only found out about it Tuesday night.
Another neighbor said she is concerned about traffic and flooding. She said during an earlier downpour she had to carry her children through 30-inch water on her back. She said the site is on a hill and the turn into the property would be dangerous.
It is on the southbound side of a divided highway.
Mike Price, representing the developers, said a flood study is being done. He said it is planned to build two ponds on the property, and he said there would be no negative flooding impact on neighbors.
The site ner Back Valley Road will include an area for assisted living.
