Edward Jacob “Eddie” Reachard, 77, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. 

He was born in Jefferson County, Ala., on March 17, 1935. He moved to Chattanooga in 1955 and worked at Velsicol Chemical for 12 years. He also preached the gospel at several area Churches of Christ from 1951 to 2004, the last being the Mountain Creek Church of Christ in Chattanooga, where he retired in 2004.  He remained a member at Mountain Creek Church of Christ.  Eddie also worked for Volunteer State Life which later became known as Chubb Life, then Jefferson Pilot, then Lincoln Financial.  His hobbies included fishing, golf, quail hunting, gardening and woodworking at which he was a skilled craftsman.  His furniture pieces are treasured by family members.

Eddie was a wonderful husband, father, “Papa” and friend to many people. He had a special gift of connecting with people, being able to convey compassion, kindness, humor and love to everyone.  He was a Godly man who possessed the fruits of the spirit found in the Bible in Galations 5:22.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pauline McCarty Reachard of McCarty Town, Ala.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Judy Hendrix Reachard; sons, Rick Reachard of Ringgold and Danny (Le) Reachard of Reston, Va.; daughter, Stacey (Dr. John) Spann of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Mary Claire Spann, Caroline Spann, Corinne Spann, all of Chattanooga and Ponmali and Soemi of Reston, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 18, at the Mountain Creek Church of Christ with Minister Gary Massey and elder and friend Don Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Creek Church of Christ Building fund.  

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, and 12-1 p.m. on Friday at the Mountain Creek Church of Christ, 985 Runyan Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37405.
